Municipal Highlights:
The Corporation of the Township of McKellar was incorporated in 1873. The Township of McKellar is a rural, residential and recreational municipality located on Highway 124 approximately 20 km northeast of the Town of Parry Sound with adjacent municipalities of Seguin, Magnetawan, Whitestone, and McDougall, all within the District of Parry Sound. The Township of McKellar has a year round population of 930 persons with approximately 75% of the 1,526 households in the municipality being seasonal.
The Township of McKellar operates a Community Centre which houses the Public Library, Municipal Office, Council Chambers and Banquet Hall. The municipality operates one landfill/transfer site available to the ratepayers of the Township of McKellar. The municipality has a volunteer Fire Department with two fire stations; Station #1 is located at 3 Sharon Park Drive and Station #2 is located at 710 Hurdville Road. The Township's Public Works Garage is located at 677 Highway #124 and has the Fire Chief's administration office upstairs in the building. There is one post office which is located in the Community Centre building.

Summary of Information Collected through Consultation:
Council and staff of the Township of McKellar will identify, remove and prevent barriers to people with disabilities when certain policies are implemented and when issues and concerns arise. This process will continue on an ongoing basis.

Initiative:
Council and staff of the Township of McKellar will review and monitor the current status of all buildings owned and operated by the municipality and the general policies and procedures of the municipality and identify, remove and prevent barriers to people with disabilities. The Township of McKellar recently completed a Strategic Plan and an Official Plan Five Year Review and this process encouraged the public to participate in the open house sessions providing information to Council and staff regarding various issues and concerns which should be addressed. Council and staff will consider barriers for people with disabilities during the formulation of policy and in its capital budgeting process.
Operational Review
Current Buildings:
a) Township of McKellar Community Centre, 701 Highway #124, McKellar, ON
This building contains the Municipal Office, Library, Council Chambers and Banquet Hall. The building, built in 1990, is a wheelchair accessible building. There are no designated handicap parking but many parking spaces are available for easy access to and from the vehicles. Handicap Accessible doors were installed at the Township office/Library entrance in May 2006 and the entrance was paved in 2010.
b) Township of McKellar Public Works Garage, 677 Highway #124, McKellar, ON
This building contains the Public Works garage and is generally not accessible to the public. The Fire Chief's administration office upstairs is not handicap accessible.

By-Laws, Policies, Practices and Services:
The current by-laws, policies and programs of the Township of McKellar have no identified barriers for people with disabilities.
Municipal Election:
The 2010 municipal elections were held using a Vote by Mail system. No accessibility issues have been identified. It is anticipated that future elections will be held using this system.
Status of Review:
Review completed October, 2005. Plan further updated June 28, 2006, November 2007 and June 2011.
List of Barriers Identified
1. No identified handicapped parking at Community Centre
2. Fire Chief's administration office not handicap accessible.
Targets and Actions
Over the next several years, Council will have to decide which barriers should be addressed keeping in mind budget constraints, feasibility and priorities.
Updates will be made to the accessibility plan on a yearly basis when areas of concern are identified. Policies, By-Laws and procedures implemented will ensure that barriers are eliminated and prevented.
